Kratie Discovery Christmas Tour
“Very enjoyable Christmas tour and great experiences along the Mekong River”
On the 25th of December, Cambodian Rural Discovery Tours organized a trip along the Mekong River called “Kratie Discovery Christmas Tour” which was designed especially for Christmas! I was in charge to lead a group of 15 people, and it definitely was a memorable experience to me. During the tour, we did many activities sitting on a Tuk-Tuk, passed many villages to see the local way of life. First, we passed by Thma Krae village, where is produced the bamboo sticky rice, a Cambodian specialty. Then, we stopped approximately 30 minutes to climb on Sambok Mountain where the travelers learnt about Buddha stories and had the opportunity to visit temples and admire the amazing view on Kratie Town. Moreover, they even had the luck to meet a monkey family!
Later, we went to a local wooden factory, where we discovered how craftsmen sculpt the wood. One the way, we arrived at Kampi where we jumped in a boat to enjoy the Mekong River and observe the Irrawaddy Dolphins! For lunch, we had a nice Khmer meal all together at Sambor district and after that, we visited the 100 Pillar Pagoda and the Mekong Turtle Conservation Center where we watched the soft shell giant turtle. The final stop of the tours was in a local house to discover the production of the natural palm sugar.
The Christmas tour was finished, but the Christmas party at Le Tonlé Restaurant & Guesthouse was upcoming! It was a great night, a delicious buffet, amazing traditional dances, an incredible tombola, and countless smiles! 🙂
